  • WORLDWIDE AUDIENCE

Who would have expected that a Montreal-based community radio station would have listeners all over the world?

They're listening to us from Ukraine to China to the US to South America. Even France which has several Jewish radio stations has Radio Shalom listeners. Judging from the fan mail, they're listening all day. Many are addicted and complain when broadcasting is suspended during Shabbat.
  • WHY THEY'RE LISTENING

It's a question of Jewish identity and tastes. Radio Shalom broadcasts news and shows that appeal to a wide audience of listeners. News is presented from a Jewish perspective. Programming is varied and rich. It's impressive!
  • UPSCALE AUDIENCE

It mostly appeals to intelligent people who care about their Jewish identity and Israel and want to stay in touch. You might say that Radio Shalom is a Jewish PBS-style radio.
  • VOLUNTEER-DRIVEN

Radio Shalom is almost entirely run by volunteers. Everyone from management to broadcasters are devoted to making Jewish voices and opinions heard worldwide. Many are extremely well educated with advanced degrees in various fields.
  • LABOUR OF LOVE

You can tell by the quality of interviews. All volunteers put their hearts and souls into what they are doing and do not count the hours. Just ask Cantor Sidney Dworkin, Stanley Asher, Howie Silbiger, Avi Kimchi and Samuel Ezerer - to name a few Radio Shalom broadcasters.
  • A MIRACLE

Radio Shalom is the brainchild of highly respected Montrealer Robert Levy who, after much manoeuvring succeeded in obtaining a community license in 2006 and then extended broadcasting to the Internet. He is also a volunteer who runs Radio Shalom and its team with much love and devotion.
  • FUNDING

Funding is on a shoestring. One never knows whether the station will stay on the air the next day. Funding is based on a loan plus donations from grateful listeners who care about having a Jewish voice heard worldwide. Other Jewish stations in the world have ceased operating for lack of funding and support. But not Montreal's Radio Shalom!
  • MARKETING & FINANCING

Plans are being made to formalize the fundraising and advertising components of Radio Shalom. Robin Behar, MBA , who was an interviewee, was "volunteered" to structure the revenue-producing components of the station. Thanks to his marketing and financing skills, he will set up systems and planned giving solutions which will ensure the continuity of Radio Shalom.
  • CONTINUOUS JEWISH NEWS

Surveys have indicated that many local listeners wish to have fresh Israel and Jewish news all day long. This service is costly and requires funding. However, it can be done given quality sponsors and generous donors.
  • COMMUNITY PARTICIPATION

In order to be able to achieve many of its objectives, Radio Shalom is going to call on the Montreal and the world Jewish community for input, feedback and participation as well as support. It's all about Jewish survival. Jews care about Jews worldwide.

Our voice must be heard everywhere by everyone!
